Revenue falls as Stagecoach loses 227

Operation of route 227 (Bromley-Crystal Palace) passes from Stagecoach Selkent to Go-Ahead London Metrobus next summer. A low bridge at Shortlands station prevents the use of double-deckers on this busy route, on which Stagecoach deploys 12m Mercedes-Benz Citaros. Although Kentish Bus operated it for five years from 1992, it has been associated with Bromley garage for most of the postwar period. In 1971 it was the last crew-operated single-deck route in London. The loss of the 227 continues a pattern for Stagecoach London, although Selkent has fared better in this respect than East London. In its latest trading statement, Stagecoach reported that revenue for the London businesses was over 2% down in the first 16 weeks of the current financial year from 1 May, compared with 2017/18. It says this is disappointing and warns that the revenue decline will increase later in the year.
