Geothermal Cost Competition

The following summary by Dr. John Rowley (Pa-jarito Enterprises Consulting Services, Inc., Los Alamos, NM) provides a summary of a Special Session at the 1997 GRC Annual Meeting on October 14, Making Geothermal Cost Competitive. Co-chaired by Brian Koenig (Unocal Geothermal & Power Operations, Santa Rosa, CA), the forum focused on optimizing the cost effectiveness of several major elements of geothermal power projects, and what developers must do to compete with fossil fuels by the early years of the 21st century. Several papers offered at the session are available in Vol. 21 of the GRC Transactions; the observations of other contributors are provided in this article.
