Cost Factors in Geothermal Production of Electricity

The life cycle costs of a geothermal power project through production of electricity include exploration to find the area for development, acquisition of the area of interest, development of energy supply facilities, and construction and operation of the generation plant—including the integral cost of environmental control facilities. For a geothermal power plant to be financially competitive with fossil-fuel power plants requires integrated control of both the timing and the size of expenditures until electricity is produced for the customer.
