A two-day field trip offering an overview of Quaternary volcanism in and around Lassen Volcanic National Park was led by Patrick Muffler of the USGS Volcano Hazards Team and Gene Suemnicht of Ormat Nevada, Inc. Dr. Muffler gave the 23 participants copies of a geologic guidebook to the park and its environs. He has co-authored the publication with fellow USGS scientist and Lassen expert, Michael A. Clynne. During the tour, Michael Sorey commented on water chemistry.rnUnruffled by weather that seemed to change every few minutes-from justrncold to fog, rain, sleet, and snow, Dr. Muffler offered fascinating and clear explanations-one after the other-of the volcanism around us, gleaned from his years of studying this unique area. And I'll never forget watching the bubbling hot springs of Bumpass Hell as the snowflakes fell.
