Nicaraguan Expansion

On May 26, the Connors Group, Inc., reported the Nicaraguan subsidiary of Canadian-based Polaris Geothermal Inc. announced it had hired Brazilian construction giant Queiroz Galvao for a project to more than triple the output from a geothermal complex northwest of Managua. Polaris Energy Nicaragua S.A., known as Pensa, has signed a contract to increase the capacity of the San Jacinto-Tizate project from 10 MWe to 34 MWe. Since December 1999, Pensa has held exclusive rights to geothermal resources in the field. The expansion is underway and two production wells and two injection wells have been drilled.
