Defining Egs,an Interview With Jefferson Tester

What often is called "The MIT Report": The Future of Geothermal Energy, Impact of Enhanced Geothermal Systems (EGS) on the United States in the 21st Century, is today a well known document. Since 2006 when it was published, the report itself, the chairman of the panel creating it, Jefferson Tester, and other panel members have exerted major influences on US geothermal legislation and development. One change is in the meaning of the termrnEGS itself, now used for an increasingly wide range and number of geothermal projects, sometimes creating confusion on how to define an EGS project. Dr. Tester was asked for help and his answers follow. He doesn't nail down the definition strongly enough to survive hurricane-force winds, but some clarification occurs: or, as he puts it, "The definition needs a little bit of refining, but not necessarily starting from scratch."
