Fijilive reported on April 9 that a Sydney-based company has proposed harnessing geothermal energy to supplement the nation's electrical needs. The proposal was made by Mitchell Morgan Investments to Fiji's Interim Government. Interim Lands and Mineral Resources Minister Netani Sukanaivalu says the project would have a rippling effect on the country's economy. Exploration could start as soon as the government grants Mitchell Morgan a license to explore the area around Viti Levu and Vanua Levu.
