Update on Near -Term Geothermal Potential in Nevada

In November 2010, the minimum near-term geothermal potential and reported properties in development in Nevada were summarized based on available information at that time. As more information becomes available, reserve estimates will undoubtedly increase, as they have from the similar estimates made in May 2008 (Shevenell, et al., 2008). The available information included data on the website at the Nevada Bureau of Mines and Geology (NBMG), heat loss estimates from Wisian et al. (2001), the GeothermEx PIER report (Klein et al., 2004), results of the Western Governor's Association (WGA) geothermal reserve estimates workshop from the summer of 2005, the Geothermal Energy Association (GEA) development update (Jennejohn, 2010), and NV Energy's Annual Renewables Report (NV Energy, 2010). All known sites for which an estimate was available or could be made were included in the list of Table 1 (see pages 24-26).
