Dr. Marshall Reed's earth science career spanned 50 years, several state and federal agencies, and one private company. He devoted 36 of these years to geothermal energy. Marshall earned BA and MA degrees in Geological Sciences from the University of California, Riverside, and a Ph.D. in Geology from the University of Maryland. At the start of his career in 1972, he worked for nearly three years as an Assistant Geothermal Officer at the California Division of Oil, Gas, and Geothermal Resources, in Sacramento. He helped to write legislation and regulations for the emerging geothermal industry and published a report still in use, "Chemistry of Thermal Water in Selected Geothermal Areas of California."
