Flame atomic absorption spectroscopy (FAAS) was used to study the levels of Cd, Co, Cr, Cu, Pb, Fe and Zn elements in the root of the aquatic plant water hyacinth. Samples were collected from four locations along the River Nile. A model describing the interaction between the studied metals and carboxylic acid is presented. Furthermore, both dielectric constant and dielectric loss as a function of temperature and frequency were measured. The obtained results indicate that, the uptake of metals by the plant leads to a significant variation in the calculated electrical parameters. In addition, results indicate the importance of water hyacinth in removing pollutants from wastewater drainages in Egypt.
