The 88th session of the IMO Maritime Safety Committee (MSC 88)

The 88th session of the IMO Maritime Safety Committee was held at the IMO headquarters in London during the period 24th November to 3rd December, 2010. It was attended by delegations from 120 countries and 58 observer organisations. The Secretary General and Jean-Charles Leclair represented the Association. The Committee continued discussions on the implementation of Long-Range Identification and Tracking of ships (LRIT) and discussions on Piracy. It also adopted several amendments to the SOLAS Convention, in particular, making mandatory the International Code for the Application of Fire Test Procedures (FTP Code, 2010). Regarding items of most interest for IALA Members, the Committee was informed of the adoption of the amendment to the IALA Maritime Buoyage System and decided to issue an SN circular to inform the maritime community accordingly.%La 88ème session du Comité de la Sécurité Maritime de l'O.M.I. s'est tenue au siège de l'Organisation à Londres du 24 novembre au 3 décembre 2010. Y participaient les délégués de 120 pays et de 58 organisations internationales ayant le statut d'observateur. Le Secrétaire Général et Jean-Charles Leclair représentaient l'Association. Le Comité a poursuivi ses discussions sur la mise en œuvre du système d'identification et de suivi des navires à longue distance (LRIT) et celles sur les questions de piraterie. Il a également adopté plusieurs amendements à la Convention SOLAS, notamment en rendant obligatoire le Code international pour l'application des procédures d'essais incendie (Code FTP, 2010).
