As I enter the fifth year of my tenure as Secretary-General, I feel more than ever encouraged by the shared conviction of the IALA members that the work we do together is vital for world maritime safety and the protection of the marine environment. The strong appeal of this spirit of cooperation is also reflected in the fact that the membership continues to grow with each year that passes. A record number of 26 new members joined IALA during 2018, while 2017 also set a record with 25 new members joining. On 1 January of this year, the total number of members reached 305 - consisting of 87 National members, 152 Industrial members, and 66 Associate members.
