The CAS Award for Natural Sciences is a major award issued by the Chinese Academy of Sciences to recognize the scientific findings and research results by which CAS scientists bring to light natural phenomena, laws and properties in their basic and applied basic research. In 1998, 73 research projects won the CAS Awards for Natural Sciences. The following are profiles of some of the prize-wining projects.
