The first shipment of ore from Metro Mining's Bauxite Hills project in north Queensland was despatched to Chinese buyers in early May. The Hong Kong-flagged SPRING OASIS loaded 64,000t of bauxite from the project's tug-and-barge operation, destined for Shandong for buyers The Xinfa Group, one of China's largest integrated aluminium companies. Xinfa has significant refining and smelting operations in Shandong, Shanxi, Guangxi and Xinjiang provinces, and Metro has a four-year binding off-take agreement to supply Xinfa with 1 Mt in the first year, followed by 2 Mtpa for each of the next three years. Pricing under the agreement is linked to a well-established alumina price index.
