Rio Tinto rolls out AutoHaul trains

Last July, the giant mining company Rio Tinto launched its AutoHaul train operating system. The software has been installed on the rail network and heavy-haul locomotives that transport wagons full of iron ore from the group's mines in Western Australia to the cargo handling facilities exporting the ore in the Pilbara port complex. AutoHaul means that locomotives are fitted with onboard cameras that allow for constant monitoring from Rio Tinto's operations centre in Perth. In addition, all public rail crossings on the network have been upgraded and installed with CCTV systems to ensure high safety standards are in place.
