More copper for Katanga

Ivanhoe Mines has announced plans to develop the Kakula copper mine in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). It said that the results of an independent pre-feasibility study carried out by a consortium led by Amec Foster Wheeler E&C Services were "extremely positive" and "confirmed the viability of the project", showing "the potential to develop the project to a larger scale and with a larger production capacity". Ivanhoe is to develop the project alongside Zijin Mining Group of China and the Congolese Government.
