The first train has taken bauxite from the new UAE-owned Guinea Alumina Corporation (GAC) mine in Guinea to the established mining port of Kamsar. In the first instance, 80-wagon trains are each carrying 6,800t of bauxite ore from the mine to the company's storage facility at Kamsar. All rail infrastructure on the project has been completed, including rail loops and a spur line to join the existing 90 km multi-user mining line that runs between Sangaredi and Kamsar. The number of trains operating on the route is to increase to up to six a day, and production is expected to peak at 12 Mtpa. Total project .development costs are estimated at US$1.4B.
