The first 12 weeks of the 2018/19 marketing year painted a dire picture for US soya bean exports. The trade in the 12-week period beginning 1 September totalled 11.9 Mt, which was 43% lower than in the same period last season, according to Bimco. This decline equated to a loss of 122 Panamax (75,000t) or 183 Supramax (50,000t) loads, but Bimco warned that even this may be downplaying the impact the change in US soya bean exporting patterns is having on the dry bulk shipping industry.
