The Sishen iron ore railway to the port of Saldanha was closed for 10 days in early December after a collision damaged a railway bridge, badly affecting exports, although state-owned operator Transnet brought the 861 km line back into use much faster than first expected. The crash hit Kumba Iron Ore's share price after the company was forced to announce that the incident would affect its 2018 export target, but it still expects to sell 42 Mt over the year because a week's worth of iron ore exports were stockpiled at the port.
