CSUs demonstrate bulk versatility

Continuous unloading, either mechanical or pneumatic, will always win out over conventional grab discharge in terms of environmental impact for handling light dusty cargoes. However, the latter mode is cheaper and more flexible if the stevedore has to handle general cargo or high density commodities. For instance, a pneumatic unloader cannot handle wet dredged sand while the value of this low cost commodity does not justify a screw type unloader. For this environmentally neutral commodity a grab is the best handling mode but options are open between a conventional wire slung grab jib crane, crawler mounted hydraulic excavator or a "knuckle head" crane.
