Increasing commodity demands boost German manufacturers

German bulk handling equipment manufacturers traditionally represent the dominant European source of heavy handling and mining plant, even though domestic mining activities are now sunset industries. But though all manufacturers are now heavily export orientated, there is still some activity within Germany. Kocks, for example, recently delivered a quayside gantry crane to Hansaport in Hamburg, which is experiencing record imports. To support this additional quayside capacity, ThyssenKrupp Foerdertechnik (TKF) received an order for a bucket wheel stacker/reclaimer unit based on a 1700 tph design fitted with a 50m boom delivered to Hansaport in 2000. Foerderanlagen Magdeburg (FAM), meanwhile, has completed the turnkey contract to supply the coal handling plant for EECV's new terminal in Rotterdam. The notable feature of this contract was a continuous shipunloader (CSU), which incorporates Sumitomo HI technology. FAM is hoping that once full operational experience is gained with this unit, it will be able to market the design to other European countries, as its licence agreement prohibits it from selling it in the Far East.
