Grabs at the cutting edge

Essentially a grab is a puppet. It is a mechanical device supported and controlled by an operator through the ropes. The basic design has not changed in a century and there is very little room for manufacturers to "reinvent the wheel". But then, why should they? While a grab may be a dumb, and for coal and iron ore, a fairly brute animal, it is well-suited to the operation. Although the basic concept may not have changed significantly,suppliers have constantly refined the design to incorporate new manufacturing technology and materials and details such as bearings, closing edge sealing and environmental considerations.
