As part of a €5M order won in May 2006, the Beumer Group of Beckum, Germany, has just completed the installation of a 12.5km curved overland troughed belt conveyor for Asia Cement in a remote area of Sichuan, China. The system will transfer limestone from a nearby quarry to a new cement plant located in the vicinity of Chengdu. With a capacity of 1500t/h and a belt speed of 4m/s, the conveyor is required to traverse mountainous terrain largely covered with bamboo forests. Owing to the remote nature of the terrain and the absence of any approach roads it was necessary to assemble about 90% of the equipment on site.
