Peculiar Knob on the move

Australian ASX-listed mineral resources company WPG Resources has lodged a formal application for construction of shipping infrastructure at South Australia's Port Pirie that could see iron ore exports begin as soon as next year. WPG (formerly Western Plains Group) subsidiary Spencer Gulf Ports is seeking government approval for an ore receival, storage and load-out facility at the port, with capacity for up to 7 mtpa. High-grade direct shipping ore (DSO) will come from WPG's Peculiar Knob deposit south of Coober Pedy, where production is expected to begin late this year.
