FIBCs have been in widespread use since the end of the 1970s and during the past four decades their popularity has continued to grow at an average annual rate of at least 10%. Currently, annual global production is believed to be well in excess of 300 million units and there is little sign of any slackening in demand for the foreseeable future. The industry has now attained a state of maturity and there is little likelihood of any significant change in the way FIBCs are designed and constructed unless some new super-strong fabric, at present outside the realms of practical science, arrives on the scene.
