Forecasts of ongoing strong industrial development and urbanisation in Asia, particularly China and India, will drive demand for steelmaking materials such as coking coal and manganese, says BHP Billiton. Steel demand In a recent presentation, the mining giant said that China and India combined will contribute to about 68% of demand growth for coking coal between 2010 and 2025. Demand from China is forecast to rise by 233 mt and from India by 94 mt out of a total demand growth of 483 mt during that time frame. Global consumption will rise by 3% CAGR between 2010 and 2020, with seaborne demand rising by about 5%.
