The bulk port of Kwinana near Fremantle will become Western Australia's sixth iron ore export outlet after Mineral Resources won the right to re-develop Kwinana Bulk Berth 2. Following several months of negotiations with the WA Government and Fremantle Ports, MinRes in mid-May secured the rights to 4.4 mtpa of export capacity, beating out rival Cazaly Resources. Under the new agreement MinRes will design and construct a new 'product handling system' at KBB2, which will "restore nameplate capacity lost by aged and inefficient infrastructure".
