Chile's competition authorities have finally ruled on a request filed in August last year in respect of the new Panitao port, which is being taken forward by Empormontt, the company that runs Puerto Montt. This involves a concession being granted for berths one and two at the existing quay and also for construction of the new Terminal Panitao. Of the three ports either proposed or under construction in this part of southern Chile (Region X), Panitao will be the first to be developed by concessionaire. The others are private initiatives: Oxxean at Bahia Chincui and Cabo Forward at Cal-buco, with the former under construction and the latter already operational.
