Taranto resolution

The dispute over bulk handling rights that threatened the €300M plans to upgrade Taranto Container Terminal (TCT) for Hutchison and Evergreen appears to have been settled. As previously reported (Bulk Materials International, May/June 2013, pl), Caramia group's CTRT affiliate wanted to continue handling raw materials for the giant ILVA steel plant on a section of the Molo Polisetto-riale and it obtained a preliminary judgement against the port authority (APT) in the regional tribunal (TAR Lecce). CTRT and sister company Italcave have now agreed to a new deal offered by APT thathas already been accepted by ILVA, Cementir, Regione Puglia and trade unions. The agreement means that APT's appeal of the regional court's judgement in the Council of State in Rome no longer has to be heard.
