Green light for Mayoko Moussondji

A feasibility study on the Mayoko Moussondji iron ore project in Congo-Brazzaville has been completed by Equatorial Resources. The Australian firm has decided to start production at 500,000 tpa, increasing to 2 Mtpa within two years. Equatorial now intends to secure funding for the project, which it is likely to develop in conjunction with the much larger Mayoko Lekoumou scheme, which is being developed by South Africa's Exxaro Resources. Exxaro intends to produce 10 Mtpa from 2016 but this will require investment in the existing 465 km railway to the port of Pointe Noire, particularly in new rolling stock. Both firms intend to transport their production in containers.
