Cameroon rail contract award

Portuguese firm Mota-Engil is to build the 510 km railway connecting the Mbalam iron ore mine to the port of Kribi on the Gulf of Guinea. Project developer Sundance Resources has also awarded it a contract to construct the iron ore terminal at Kribi and the company is already working on similar rail projects in Angola, Malawi, Mozambique and Uganda. The terminal will have capacity to handle 35 Mtpa and will be capable of accommodating Chinamax vessels, indicating the likely destination for most of the iron ore produced.
