Bulking up Oman's ports

Oman is not the biggest country in the Middle East but it has a proud and well-established trading tradition. Considerable investments are underway in its main ports - Mina Qaboos (Muscat), Sohar, Salalah and Duqm - to ensure that this continues. A recent report by London-based Business Monitor International highlighted this situation and pointed to a consistent growth in Oman's trade and port throughput volumes. "We expect volumes on Oman's freight transport network to enjoy strong growth over the coming years," the report's author wrote. "Total trade is expected to average 2.3% growth per annum up to 2018, with the country benefiting from a rapidly growing economy, expanding consumer base and sizeable investment projects. These infrastructure developments will see Oman develop as a hub for transhipment in the future."
