Super hub Sohar

Deep water, plenty of industrial grade land for development and a proactive approach on the part of Sohar Industrial Port Co (SIPC) are the main reasons why Rio de Janeiro-based Vale selected Sohar as one of its super hubs in its global iron/steel supply chain. Discussions with SIPC commenced in 2008 when Vale itself was planning to modernise and expand its shipping fleet by ordering 400,000 dwt Valemax vessels - ships with a beam of 65m, length of 360m and a draught of up to 23m.
