CSL Australia (CSLA) is working on plans for offshore transhipment options to ease the capacity constraints at Port Hedland. Business development manager Bruce Watson said an offshore barge/transhipment operation -successfully employed by CSLA for miner Arrium at Whyalla in South Australia's Spencer Gulf -would provide capacity for junior miners struggling for terminal space. While Port Hedland has been setting new export records virtually every month, the port's capacity is limited by the number of deep-draught ships that can move through the Inner Harbour channel on any given tide.
