Vale on course at Nacala

Brazilian mining firm Vale has announced that it expects to begin exporting coal from the Port of Nacala in September, despite the collapse of a coal stacker at the port. While the nascent Mozambican coal boom has been undermined by lower international prices and delays in developing transport infrastructure, Vale has been one of the few companies to pursue commercial development. The first coal was due to be shipped out of Nacala in the first quarter of this year but floods damaged the partially new 900 km railway line that connects the Moatize coal basin in the northwest of the country with the Port of Nacala on the Indian Ocean. GE is supplying 80 new diesel-electric locomotives for use on the line.
