After a major renovation/expansion project, a series of slip and fall accidents (including one serious injury) threatened the restaurant's reputation. The new tile hallway connecting two kitchens, the dining area, and the restrooms became increasingly slippery as liquids ended up on the floor. Operating partner Marc Polan met with his insurance agent and Sam Nager, a risk services consultant and restaurant industry expert. Charley's covered the hall with mats, added air conditioning vents to minimize wetness, installed a container on the kitchen's drainage trough for servers to dump leftover drinks, and increased the height and weight of the stainless steel barrier around the dishwashing area. Since then, slip and fall incidents have been drastically reduced.
