How? Create a subcommittee on the green team or a separate group that deals specifically with energy. General green teams may also deal with water, waste, and other opportunities and may not have the time to take on energy issues, where considerable savings opportunities exist. How many? Five to seven people is a good size for any working group. Smaller groups can put too much work on the members, and bigger groups can get lost in bureaucracy and prevent the members from coming to a decision. Who? Representatives from facilities management and IT are vital - they keep the building systems running every day and have the best idea of what energy ideas are feasible. If you're leasing, the property manager or landlord must be in the loop, since you'll be upgrading a building that your company doesn't own. Make sure you also involve HR, simply because human resources tends to be the holder of employee communications and so much of energy reduc tion is about getting people to change their behaviors.
