The 1980S were a strange decade. haircuts were invariably mulleted, shoulders were rarely unpadded and the UK's most popular television personality was a talking rat. All of which makes it rather galling when Dennis Lenard, the chief executive of Constructing Excellence, says British construction is "stuck in the 1980s and hasn't moved on", as he did recently in an article in the Financial Times. But is he right? Is construction, like some lonely Duran Duran fan, stuck in a 1980s time bubble? Building went in search of some industry experts to find out.
