Quantity surveyors should work together with lawyers and not rush into specialist areas where they are not qualified. Quantity surveyors and lawyers have long been the two ugly sisters of the building industry, hissed and booed in Building editorials, and by contractors, subcontractors, architects and engineers, although, interestingly, not so much by clients of the construction industry. There seems to be no equivalent consensus as to who is the Cinderella of the industry. Each sector -contractor, architect, subcontractor and even lawyer - thinks it plays this role.
