Most people associate Kingspan with roof and wall panels and insulation, but what more mature readers may remember is that the firm's roots are elsewhere: in cold-rolled light gauge steel profiles. It wasn't until the eighties that the firm started to make the panels and insulation products for which it is now known. Kingspan's original business was founded in the early seventies on cold-rolled steel profiling for roof purlins and rails in partnership Ward, a firm based in Sherburn, North Yorkshire. This allowed Kingspan to produce and supply cold-rolled sections for the Irish market. Twenty-three years later Kingspan would return to Yorkshire to buy Ward.
