Stanton Williams surprised by Stirling Prize win

A founding director of Stanton Williams has spoken of his "absolute surprise" at winning the 2012 RIBA Stirling Prize for the firm's Sainsbury Laboratory in Cambridge. The practice, shortlisted for the award for the first time, beat off bookies' favourite David Chipperfield's Hepworth gallery in Wakefield along with Populous' Olympic stadium, OMA's Rothschild Bank and the same practice's Maggie's centre and O'Donnell + Tuomey's Lyric theatre.
