Atkins buys American nuclear engineering firm for up to £16m

Consultant Atkins has bought a 130-strong US nuclear engineering firm for a consideration of up to £16m. Atkins has agreed to pay US$15m (£9m) as an initial consideration for Nuclear Safety Associates (NSA) and a further US$12m (£7m) subject to its | future performance. The US nuclear engineer provides advice and services to clients on nuclear safety, design engineering and professional security. Uwe Krueger, chief executive of Atkins, said the acquisition was "another step" towards Atkins' "strategy to be one of the world's leading energy consultancies". Atkins is now targeting expansion in the commercial nuclear power and decommissioning markets.
