Firms activate emergency plans to carry on working

Contractors including Laing O'Rourke, Vinci and Bam began telling office-based staff that they could work from home this week in an attempt to curb coronavirus. The prime minister said on Monday that people should work from home wherever possible but, as Building went to press, firms were looking to keep sites open for as long as was practicably possible.
