The reporting requirements place no legal obligation on employers to close the gap or even to justify why one exists within their company, but this does not mean they shouldn't care, writes Clare Parkinson. If a business has a high gender pay gap, female employees within an organisation may be concerned they will not have the same opportunities to progress as their male colleagues, which can lead to them becoming demoralised and potentially seeking employment elsewhere. Replacing employees in which a company has invested time and money is costly.
