Carillion was shelling out millions of pounds to pay advisers' bills 72 hours before it went bust Documents released by the MPs running the inquiry into Carillion's collapse show it paid more than £3m in fees three days before it imploded. Payments included £190,000 and £230,000 to accountants EY and PwC respectively while FTI Consulting said it was paid £837,000 "on or around that date [12 Januaryl". Carillion went under on 15 January, and interim chief executive Keith Cochrane told MPs last week he was "still perplexed" the government did not step in and save the firm. He said: "I was very, very disappointed. I was surprised, yes, because for me it was not the rational, logical decision to make. I'm still somewhat perplexed."
