PwC fees top £20m in first eight weeks of contractor's insolvency

Carillion special manager PwC has earned more than £20m in the first eight weeks of the company's insolvency, MPs running the inquiry into Carillion's collapse have heard. PwC partner and special manager David Kelly (pictured) revealed his firm has charged £20.4m in the two months since the firm went under in January. He said: 'This is the largest case of its kind. There has never been a compulsory liquidation of this size. There has never been a trading compulsory liquidation of this size either. "In terms of our fees to date, the total cost for the first eight weeks [is] £20.4m." Explaining the fee, Kelly said his firm had charged around £3m a week for the first two weeks, with that number falling to £1.4m a week more recently as the number of staff on the project dropped. At the same hearing, business secretary Greg Clark promised there will be an investigation into the payments lavished on the stricken contractor's advisers in its dying days.
