Alberta and Manitoba are open to Ontario Energy Minister Dwight Duncan's suggestion to having a nationally integrated east-west interconnection that would be the single longest powerline built in Canada, similar to the country's interprovincial pipelines. The Ontario government hopes to get the ball rolling this fall by releasing a report on a pending feasibility study that outlines Ontario's plans to purchase clean hydroelectric power from Manitoba. The study will focus on the construction of a 1, 250-megawatt transmission line to Ontario from the proposed Conawapa hydro development on Manitoba's Nelson River. Angie Robson, spokesperson for Mr. Dwight Duncan, said that Ontario and Manitoba are currently working together to identify the options and the issues.
