A recent study from ARCADIS reveals that the region in the world where the construction disputes are the highest in value is Asia. In 2013, the average value of contract disputes was US$41.9 million, more than 30 percent higher than the global average of US$32.1 million. Another interesting finding from the report shows that 31% of the joint ventures in Asia turn into disputes. This is significant, as a number of countries (including China and India) require JVs for certain types of construction project. Not only is the average value of construction disputes in Asia the highest in the world, they also take the longest to resolve. According to the ARCADIS study, it takes, on average, 14 months to reach an outcome in Asia, slightly longer than the time it takes in the Middle East and the United States, and more than twice as long as it takes in Continental Europe.
