An occasional German scholar argues that Pausanias never went anywhere, but got it all from books.rnThis is an outlandish response to one of the greatest of all examinations of the physical remains of culture, carried out in the time of Hadrian by an indefatigablernenthusiast, who occasionally fears that his absorption will prevent him from doing all of Greece as thoroughly as the Athenian Acropolis or the sacred site at Olympia.
