Concrete blocks reinforce addition to Watertown, N.Y., business community

The new Hilton Garden Inn in Watertown, N.Y., designed by GYMO Architecture, houses 136 deluxe rooms, first-class conference areas, and a 300-person ballroom, important additions to the area's business community. FM2000 concrete blocks manufactured by Watertown-based Taylor Concrete Products were specified. The product offers higher-than-standard compressive strength of 2,800 psi and is made of recycled raw materials. The four-story, 64,000-sf hotel was constructed using concrete block and prestressed concrete plank. The concrete blocks require significantly less grout and reinforcing steel than traditional products, saving the hotel $60,000 in material costs.
